Essential Concepts

Training in Chen Taiji requires practitioners to develop a new conceptualization of the body, and indeed a new way to use the body.

While at first the training will seem to be non-intuitive, after developing a clearer understanding of the principles of Jing, Qi, Shen and traditional conceptualizations of force, the training method will become clear.

First Form- Yilu

Yilu, the first practice routine of Chen Taiji, contains all of the basic training techniques and methods necessary for a comprehensive understanding of Chen Taiji.

Second Form- Erlu Cannon Fist

Erlu, the second routine, is also known as the Cannon Fist.

The Cannon Fist continues to refine the basic Taiji principles, energetic skills and body mechanics through a vigorous training sequence. It is difficult, beautiful, and highly effective.

Straight Sword- Jian

Straight sword, or jian training is an integral and advanced training method that relies on the body and energetic skills acquired through training in Yilu and Erlu routines.

Sword handling and mechanics are significantly different from other arts
